Ruby Marie Fisher, 95, of Oblong, IL passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. Born on January 17, 1920 in Newton, IL, Ruby was the daughter of Dennis Brooks and Josephine (Helmling) Brooks. On March 24, 1941 she married George Edward Fisher and he preceded her in death on September 24, 1986.
Ruby was employed at the Index Store in Oblong as a clerk, cashier and bookkeeper for 15 years. She was a homemaker, a Sunday school and Bible school teacher at First Christian Church of Oblong for many years. Ruby was a member of the Home Extension Group, quilting club, coffee club of Oblong as well as a 4-H leader. Ruby and George enjoyed their time camping and covered all 48 states together and Ruby collected mugs from each state. Most people remember her good cooking and how she loved to feed you and what a variety she would prepare.
Ruby is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law Rose Ann and Noel Kirk, Pigeon Forge, TN; Nancy Louise and Gary Andrews, Hillsboro, OR; and Teresa Marie and Tim Slate, Amity, OR; three grandchildren: Katrina Park and husband J. Matthew Park, Timothy Kirk and wife Penny, Christine Karduna and husband Andrew; nine great-grandchildren: Travis Park and wife Laura, Ryan Park, Hannah Kirk, Zachariah Kirk, Caleb Kirk, Abigail Kirk, Alex Karduna, Madeleine Karduna and Austin Kirk; a sister Winifred Michl, Oblong, IL and a sister-in-law Dorothy Brooks, Danville, IN.
Preceding Ruby in death were her parents; her husband; one daughter Mary Ruth Fisher; a grandson Greggry Kirk; one sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Roy Rogers; two brother and a sister-in-law Earl and Wilma Brooks and Cecil Brooks; and one brother-in-law Thadius Michl.
